Hobbies Screen Time with Fulfilling Hobbies

Finding hobbies to balance screen time and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Five years ago, I received a wake-up call when I discovered my daily average screen time was over 10 hours. This realization prompted me to build healthier habits. Fast forward to today, my job in social media requires a lot of screen time, but I’ve adopted various hobbies to balance it out and manage a healthier amount of screen time.

1. Crafting

Before diving into bigger DIY projects like building furniture, I found joy in crafting. Creating small objects for my home provided immense satisfaction. Crafting teaches us that there are no mistakes, only new discoveries and unique creations.

Wooden Bead Projects:

  • Plant hangers
  • Bubble vases
  • Hand towel holders
  • Star trivets

2. Cooking

Cooking has a close connection to confidence, self-esteem, and creativity. Trying new recipes, like the viral strawberry shaved ice, adds excitement to daily life.

Strawberry Shaved Ice Recipe:

  1. Grate frozen strawberries.
  2. Top with condensed milk and crushed nuts.
  3. Enjoy mindfully with music to set the mood.

3. Learning Languages

If I could choose one superpower, it would be to speak every language in the world, including animal talk. With the internet, learning new languages is more accessible than ever.

Favorite Online Language School: Lingoda

  • Offers 6 languages and 3 programs: Flex, Teams, and Sprint.
  • Tailor classes to your preference and schedule.
  • Classes include warm-up, participation, and review.

4. Making Art

Creating art is akin to meditation. It allows my mind to shift away from anxiety and stress.

Art Projects:

  • Digital art using Procreate
  • Physical art with markers and acrylics
  • DIY keychains from shrink plastic
  • Painting and upcycling items like globes and pots

5. Reading

I’ve read more books in the last 8 months than in the previous 15 years. Reading before bed has improved my sleep significantly.

Book Recommendations:

  • “The Bookseller at the End of the World” by Ruth Shaw
  • “Attachments” by Rainbow Rowell
  • Blood and Ash series by Jennifer Armentrout

6. Tabletop Activities

Puzzles, board games, and building LEGO are my favorite ways to spend time alone or bond with family and friends. These activities trigger feel-good endorphins and reduce stress and anxiety.
